Alex received his BA in Biology from Hunter College during which time he received a HHMI Undergraduate Fellowship to work at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA for two summers. He received his MA in
Neuroscience from the City College of New York working on the neurodegenerative effects of an E3 ubiquitin ligase in Drosophila. During his graduate work, he received a CUNY Chancellor’s Fellowship and a MSKCC Graduate Research Fellowship. Alex has also presented his work at numerous meetings including the Society for Neuroscience, the Drosophila Research Conference, and at a Keystone Conference on Neurodegeneration.

My lab uses high-resolution quantitative fluorescence microscopy in living cells to determine how physical signaling cues are integrated to drive the changes in endothelial cell branching morphogenesis that are required for directed cell movement.  We aim to answer questions such as how does the microtubule cytoskeleton contribute to productive endothelial cell branching, how do physical interactions between endothelial cells and their extracellular environment drive the regulation of microtubule dynamics, what are the contributions of microtubule regulatory proteins in mediating this regulation, and how are signaling pathways coordinated by the cell to generate the observed morphological dynamics that promote directed cell migration during angiogenesis.
